Jean Vanier
“Befriending the Stranger”
We have difficulty living in the present moment,
trusting in the presence of God
in the here and now giving thanks.
Yet that is precisely where the mystery of the Incarnation lies;
The revelation that God is hidden in reality.
God is not someone inaccessible, “out there” in the sky,
out of the reach of human beings.
We do not have to search for God “out there” or in the future.
God is close to us, present to us—
Eternally present in the “now” of each moment.
God is in the eternal here and now,
even in our brokenness and woundedness.
The life of each one of us is a story of growth
towards a greater openness and inner freedom,
towards a greater acceptance of reality
The reality of our own story.
and the truth of who we are and who others are.
It’s a long journey.
Thanks to Jean Vanier for this wonderful reflection as we head into the season of Advent.
