Have we become too involved with our technology? Are we losing the ability to form good relationships because our I-phone is becoming our best friend? Have we lost the skill to talk to others? Have we forgotten the joy of taking time just to rest in our own thoughts? Have you ever been off the grid and found yourself lost or anxious? Does that scare you? Next time you feel this way, STOP, breathe deeply feeling with awareness each breath you take in and expel. Open your eyes wide and look around you. What do you see? Who do you see? There is a world out there! You will be surprised how much more meaningful and reflective your life might become when you practise being aware and alert to the blessed moments around you.
Sitting at an outdoor sidewalk restaurant this past week watching people scurrying off to work, I asked myself the question, “Is technology a blessing or a curse to our inner well being?” I know that anything that enhances our lives is good but do we need balance? What say you?
I wrote a song while watching everyone head off to the workplace that you can sing to yourself and then, you tell me if you know what I am talking about?
(Sing the song to the tune of MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB. )
Nine to five we walk along, walk along, walk along
Nine to five we walk along, with headphones in our ears.
Walking fast or walking slow, running skipping, on the go,
Moving with our eyes cast low to and from our job.
Get the news or hear a song, tweet about a right or wrong,
Make a call that’s short or long, using up your time.
Never talk and all the while, strutting sharply with your style,
Keep directly in your “aisle”, till you get to work,
Keep it up right till the end, holding close your loyal friend,
Even though someone may smile, it won’t change your tech’s beguile!
Now begins your working day, your “best friend” is put away
But I-phones always have a hunch, that they’ll have a date for lunch!
