Christmas is now over and people are getting ready to go back to work and school and the normal routine as we all know it. Decorations will soon be removed. For some, the excitement is over and the beauty that was Christmas is an event of the past. But here’s the good news. Bethlehem stays with us. The light that shone in the darkness tends to linger and we bathe in the glow of what has happened, if we choose to do so. Two years ago I photographed a sailboat in the Gulf of Mexico slowly heading home as the sun began to set. The image was powerful because of the peaceful beauty of the boat set against the descending bright sun. The moment allowed me to understand that there will always be dark times in our lives but that we have great opportunities to face the light and be illuminated, and to remain that way.
I jotted down a few poetic phrases to capture what I was feeling that day:
“Sail in the darkness.
Pass through the light.
Sit in the light.
Sail into the darkness again,
wrapped in the warmth of the light”
Sit in the warmth of Christmas. Sit in the beauty of Bethlehem. Sit with the knowledge that the darkness can be overturned by the Light. Have an amazing 2016. This is your year!
