It is hard to believe that Advent is almost over and Christmas is right around the corner. This year I am really trying to place myself in that stable of so long ago and feel what it must have been like. The shepherds were the first to hear and see the Good News. They were, as the song tells us, watching their flocks by night. Do we take the time to hear and, more importantly, see the good news as we attend to our daily responsibilities? We often don’t see the joy in our lives as we could. We often complain about work and relationships and what we don’t have and often overlook what we do. Think about the things with which you have been graced. Then look around at those right before your eyes. Look at family. Look at friends. Look at work colleagues. Look at strangers. They may not be feeling or seeing peace that could be theirs. Take your blessings and blend with these people. Give them a hug, a kind gesture, a smile or a word of comfort. Give them that same feeling and opportunity that the lowly shepherds had those many years ago when they were invited to be the first to witness the Good News. Let us carry on the mission. Let us be that invitation for someone today. Alleluia, Alleluia!
